We know homelessness is a huge challenge for San Joaquin County. In April 2019, we learned how huge that challenge is.
According to the 2019 Point in Time Count, there are at least 1,558 homeless individuals living on the streets in San Joaquin County. Of those on the streets, 69% are men. That makes our effort even more imperative.
Thanks to funding from the State of California HEAP program, Ready to Work is expanding its capacity to shelter more individuals. As of May 1 this year, we’ve already provided shelter to 100 homeless men. With this additional resource and the resources already committed by the Community Corrections Partnership, local donors, the Bank of America Foundation, and our employment partners, we’re determined to make a dent in reducing the county’s unsheltered homeless population by providing shelter, opportunity, and paths to permanent housing.
